QUALIFICATION AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Programmes within ESB's Certificate of Achievement series, Certificate in Oral Communication Skills at Pre-Entry and Entry Level, are designed to develop life and work skills in practical, enjoyable interactive oral communication, in familiar contexts. They provide opportunities for individual research and choice, and support language across the curriculum, building confidence, authority and self esteem in the process.

There is particular emphasis on

  • providing a forum for sharing practical, manual and creative skills with peers and others
  • encouraging group members to listen to, support and learn from one another's contributions
  • recognising each candidate as an individual with an unique capability.

There is opportunity for individual and group work at each level. The Group Topic option provides opportunity for a joint group theme at Entry 1-3. At Entry 1 the group topic theme is a subject based one chosen from studies or leisure, at Entry 2 the focus is on living in the community, and at Entry 3 the group topic focuses on the world of work.

The whole culture of ESB and the assessment format, content and assessment process encourages the value and place of the individual within the community or workplace and supports the concept of citizenship.
